Publishing in Canada

Canadian Book Publishers

Canada has a vibrant publishing industry, with many publishers representing all genres of books. According to Booknet Canada, Canadians are more likely to have read a book in the past year than their counterparts to the south.

The Canadian government and various provincial governments offer support with a variety of funding programs that seek to promote a strong Canadian-controlled book industry to support Canadian authors.

Grants are also available for professional writers, helping with travel expenses as well as to provide income stability while creating new works.

Canada plays host to a number of fantastic book festivals and events each year. Many of these are held in the summer months to take advantage of more hospitable weather, but communities large and small within the country have literary events taking place all year long.

There are also a great number of literary contests and awards offered in Canada. Some of these are open to all, others are restricted to those within certain geographic boundaries.
