The BBA rewards the most promising new writers and their editors. The award is made annually to the most promising book by a first time novelist.
The author may have published other books in another genre - for example, poetry or a picture book - but eligibility for the prize requires that this is her or his first novel for children.
The book chosen should be first published on a children’s list in the UK in the judging year. The book must have an editor and the author should live and work in the UK.
We cannot accept books that are only available in e-format or that are self published or where the author has contributed or paid for the costs of publishing.
