The Ontario government established the Trillium Book Award in 1987 to celebrate the quality and diversity of Ontario writers and writing. It includes the Prix Trillium for Francophone writers, a Trillium Book Award for Poetry for emerging poets, and a Trillium Book Award for Children’s Literature in French language. The award given to the author of each winning book is $20,000 and their publishers receive $2,500 for the marketing and promotion of the titles. New and emerging poets are eligible for the Poetry award, with the award recipient receiving $10,000 and the winning publisher receiving $2,000. All books in any genre are eligible, except anthologies and translations, judged by a jury of writers and figures from the literary community.
